Did you know that Bali has a wake park? The water sports cable park flies slightly under the radar for a lot of tourists visiting this popular island paradise. If you’re looking for something new to try in Bali or just want a fun day out, Bali Wake Park could be the perfect option.
What is Bali Wake Park?
Bali Wake Park is a fun park with a circular water track and a mechanical cable that pulls patrons around. There is a launch pad for dry launches into the water, jumps, pipelines and other obstacles. The track is dug out and filled with filtered sea water from the nearby bay. You can not only wake board but ski, wake ski and knee board. There are two alternating speeds for the cable that change every hour on the hour.
There is also an Aqualand floating obstacle course off to the side to enjoy as well and it’s just as fun for adults as it is for the kids. There is a bar & restaurant on site, an infinity pool overlooking the track, picnic tables and sun loungers.
Where is Bali Wake Park?
Located on the outskirts of Denpasar, the wake park is close to Denpasar airport, Kuta & Sanur.
How much does Bali Wake Park cost?
It is free to enter the park and enjoy the amenities such as the infinity pool, restaurant and picnic tables. Charges apply for use of the cable park or Aqualand. Prices for the cable park start at 400k ($25 USD) per hour and 250k ($16) per hour for the Aqualand. Packages for both start at 600k ($38).
You can buy tickets on their website and check more pricing options. You do not need to pre-book or pre-purchase tickets though, you are more than welcome to pay once you arrive.
Tips to visiting:
Here are some things I wish I knew before visiting to hopefully make planning your day there easier.
Beware of the two speeds
The speed of the cable car changes every hour and they have two set speeds; normal and slow. As someone that has been wakeboarding for over 20 years (behind a boat but still), I thought I would be fine on the ‘normal speed’. But let’s just say the speeds should be named normal (for slow) and FAST (for normal).
The slow did feel that way once you are up and going around the track but the speed to be pulled to start was perfect. You get pulled from the dry launch station, sitting on the ledge of the platform with your board resting in the water. It was easy to pull myself up on the slow speed but near impossible for me on the normal speed.
The normal (or fast) setting was insane. The cable took off so fast and it was really hard to hold on and try to pull your board along with you. I’ve never had so many issues starting before. I wasn’t the only one either, there were a lot of people wiping out straight away.
There were also a small group of very skilled wake boarders using the park in this hour. They were using the jumps, pipelines etc and doing flips and cool tricks. So this definitely felt like the more professional hour. If you are experienced and want to try some of these tricks then this would be the hour to choose.
I have never been to another wake park so I’m not sure if this is normal, but I would have thought there would be a slightly slower setting for taking off… but maybe not. And because of the really uncomfortable handles that are not grippy at all, this makes it even harder. Which brings me to my next point.
They use wooden handles
As an establishment designed for water sports I would expect for them to at least have proper wakeboarding or skiing handles for comfort. After only three laps of the track my hands were really sore and I had to have a break.
A lot of the professional patrons seemed to have gloves, so if you have sensitive hands I would look into bringing some. Or else you should be able to purchase some at their on-site shop.
Utilise the practice area as much as you can
When you pay for your hour/s, you get a wristband that gets scanned as you start to start your clock. You don’t need to scan your wristband when using the practice area, so it won’t chew into your paid time. So make the most of it and practice until you’re confident because once you use the launch station even once, the clock starts.
This area is just past the launch area, keep walking for another minute to find it.
What happens if you fall?
If you fall, raise your hand so the person behind you can see where you are and then move to the side. There is a bit of distance between each cable so you should have enough time to get out of the way.
They have golf carts that drive around the outside of the track to pick up people and bring them back to the launch station so you don’t need to walk back.
You can switch between different boards
If you want to try different water sports, you don’t just have to stick to one. Give a few a go!
You have to pay extra for the more professional equipment
If you plan to do jumps, there were different boards to rent and a higher fee. Just chat to the staff and they can help you out.
