Bali bucketlist stay ✨

Staying in one of these magical bamboo villas is a perfect way to spend a few days in the Balinese jungle.

It’s located in Sidemen; a small town in the mountains just east of Ubud. Surrounded by rainforest, waterfalls and rice terraces, this is the perfect place to enjoy some peace and quiet.

Sidemen is what I always pictured Ubud was going to be before visiting, yet I was shocked to realise it’s a really busy city 😂 So if you’re looking for that quiet, local small town Bali feel, I highly recommend going that bit further to Sidemen and staying in these beautiful bamboo huts.

We slept amongst nature listening to the sound of the jungle and the river that ran right along our villa.

It was pure bliss. Just don’t forget that it actually gets a bit cooler in the mountains, and wetter! Pack accordingly 😂

Best spots to visit in the Dolomites 🍁⛰️

There’s two main areas in the Dolomites, so I’ll break it down by East/West.

East (near Cortina d’Ampezzo):

🏞️ Pass Giau & Ra Gusela - scenic spot, you can hike from here but it’s not one of the best hikes. The best part is the drive here from town and views all along the road.

🏞️ Lago Federa - beautiful lake surrounded by golden larches so if you go mid-late October you have the chance to see it covered in yellow/orange. Hike was like 1.5-2 hours each way.

🏞️ Lago delle Baste - small lake with a cool reflection of the mountains.

🏞️ Ra Gusela pond reflection - another reflection spot but only if there’s enough water. Have to kind of go off road to find it.

🏞️ Lago Limides

🏞️ Lago di Serapis - really blue lake with mountains surrounding. 4-6 hour hike depending on the route you take. Can get really busy so go early.

🏞️ Tre Cime di Lavaredo - one of the best hiking spots. Park at Rifugio Auronzo and you go left for the main hike to the three peaks but do the hike to the right as well to Cadini di Misurina if you have time. Such amazing views! Find Grotta delle Tre Cime which is a cave with cool views of the three peaks. 5-6 hours to do it all.

🏞️ Lago di Braies - famous lake, little further away but worth it. Gets really busy though especially with photographers for sunrise.

West:

🏞️ Lago di Carezza - pretty blue lake close to the car park

🏞️ Lago di Antermoia - a 4-5 hour hike to the lake.

🏞️ Panorama Alpe Siusi - famous viewpoint of Sieser Alm.

🏞️ Naturpfad Troi Unika - outdoor sculpture museum

🏞️ Seceda - sharp peaks. popular hike or you can get a cable car up.

🏞️ Vallunga Langental - valley to hike through

🏞️ Cinema delle Odle - scenic viewpoint of mountains. Park at Maga Zannes. 1-2 hour hike.

🏞️ Church of St. John - cute church with mountains behind.

🏞️ Santa Magdalena Viewpoint - one of my fave viewpoints. Have to walk up from the town.

🏞️ Laghetto Baita Segantini - scenic spot. 45 minute walk from Passo Rolle or get the shuttle.

We found this amazing two bedroom apartment that not only had this view from the bedroom but a whole rooftop patio to enjoy the best view of Matera. Seriously, we walked around the whole town and went to all the viewpoints and none were as good as ours 😂

Then as we were about to head to bed at 10:30pm we hear these loud bangs and look out to fireworks!! Probably one of the best fireworks display I’ve ever seen, perfectly situated behind one of the world’s oldest towns.

It was a religious day of celebration for The Feast of Saint Eustace and they end the day with fireworks! How lucky are we! We were in total disbelief with our jaws on the floor the whole time saying “what is going on” 😂 we were already feeling blown away by the views at this apartment and then this!

📆 so pop the 20th of September in your calendar if you want to witness this magic next year. Highly recommend!
